Position: Fullstack software developer

Country: Ethiopia

Sometimes all it takes is one spark for the motivation of climate activism to take off, and for Kidus Yohannes from Ethiopia, this rings true. Walking through his neighbor, he noticed the once vibrant local pond had become murky and riddled with trash. So, armed with gloves and a trash bag he spent the day cleaning as much litter from the pond as he could find. Feeling compelled by the curious onlookers, he felt a sense of pride from cleaning up his community and contributing to the efforts of activism. Feeling the difference that even the smallest of actions can have, he continued to organize local cleanups and advocate for betting waste management practices. Kidus is deeply involved in volunteering with organizations such as Rotary and AIESEC in Ethiopia, and his role here at YCC is in Fullstack software development. He envisions establishing a sustainable social enterprise focused on environmental conservation and community empowerment. He wants to create a platform that not only promotes eco-friendly practices but also provides opportunities for marginalized communities to participate in conservation efforts while improving their livelihoods. Ultimately Kidus’s goal is to play a meaningful role in fostering a more harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world, striving for a future where both thrive in balance.
